SAMBA, Nov 18: A meeting of Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS) block conveners (Sarpanches) of district Samba was held here today under the leadership of Shahnawaz Choudhary, general secretary Pradesh Congress Committee and State chief Panchayat Raj System J&K.
In the meeting, newly appointed block convenors, Panches and Sarpanches from all the blocks of Samba district participated and highlighted their grievances and a joint resolution was passed by the Sarpanches and Panches to fight against the decision of the State Government to hold the indirect elections of Sarpanches, which is the joke with democracy and decided to start State wide movement and agitation.
Shahnawaz Choudhary, while interacting with Sarpanches, lambasted the PDP-BJP Government for the murder of basic institutions of democracy by imposing the indirect elections of Sarpanches and ignoring the order of amended Panchayti Raj Act J&K by the last Government. He said that the BJP is centralising powers in the State and country which will lead our nation to dictatorship. This decision of Government will raise further trust deficit among the people of this sensitive State, he said and added that the Government wanted to keep the power at Civil Secretariat instead of grass root institution.
He said RGPRS aims to advocate for decentralization of power, enhance devolution literacy among PRI representatives and generate awareness amongst the citizens regarding the role and power of local self Government. He announced to fight aggressively for the implementation of 73rd amendment of Constitution in J and K Panchayati Raj Act and against indirect election of Sarpanches.
Pankaj Basotra, convener RGPRS Jammu province, said that Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan, J&K is going to start State wide awareness campaign and agitation against the PDP- BJP Government for destroying the democratic structure of Panchayats in the State. He also said that in coming days, all the district convenors of RGPRS will be announced and will also prepare the list of educated potential youth from rural areas who have keen interest in serving the people and RGPRS will further support them.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included NSUI State president Neeraj Kundan, State secy. PYC Sandeep Sharma- district convener RGPRS Samba, Kamer Singh, Jag Ram, Chander Shekhar and Darshan Singh.
