JAMMU, Nov 15: Additional Sessions Judge Jammu, Sanjay Gupta today awarded rigorous imprisonment to six accused namely Kulbeer Singh, Bikram Singh, Bhagwan Singh, Som, Darshan Lal and Kuldeep Singh, all residents of R S Pura under Section 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and fine of Rs 20,000 each.
According to the police case, on January 20, 2008 the accused persons brutally assaulted one Dhana Ram over a trifle issue and on February 1, 2008 the victim succumbed to injuries.
After hearing APP Vijay Sharma for the State, Senior Advocate Surinder Kour for the complainant whereas Senior Advocate P N Raina and Advocate ML Thusoo for the accused persons, Additional Sessions Judge observed, “although the accused persons have committed the crime under Section 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) RPC but due to this crime the accused have taken the life of the only bread earner member of the family”.
With these observations, the Court awarded eight years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 to all the accused with the direction that the fine if deposited should be released in favour of the complainant.
