EC for speedy rehabilitation of displaced Dal dwellers

JAMMU, Nov 15: The Committee on Estimates (EC) of Legislative Assembly today asked the Government to speed up the rehabilitation process of the Dal dwellers displaced following the implementation of the Dal Lake Development project.
The Committee which met here today under the Chairmanship of Ch. Mohammad Ramzan, sought detailed information from Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department about the action taken report on the directions issued by the Committee from time to time for the development of the Dal Lake and the rehabilitation of Dal dwellers at the identified site of Rakhi Arth, for its examination.
It also sought detailed report on the appointments made by the H&UD Department in various Local Bodies of the State along with the criteria adopted by the department for such appointments. The panel asked the H&UD authorities to furnish the information on the already issued questionnaire within a week’s time for the perusal of the members of the Committee.
The Committee members Dr. Mustafa Kamaal, Abdul Gaffar Sofi and Peer Aafaq Ahmad, also discussed in detail   various issues, including the development of Ancharsar and Khushalsar. They also gave their valuable suggestions for the improvement of world famous Dal Lake. The Panel directed LAWDA to speed up the rehabilitation process and suggested for deployment of a special team to complete the land related formalities.
The Committee decided that it will conduct on-the-spot inspections of the inner areas of Dal and Rakhi Arth in the first week of December.
Vice Chairman, LAWDA Mohammad Irfan Shah briefed the Committee about the activities and the progress achieved by the Authority.
Among others, Director General Accounts and Treasuries Ravi Mangotra and other officers and engineers of H&UD Department and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
