BSNL to provide better mobile services in Leh

LEH, Nov 15: On the persistent and personal intervention of the CEC, LAHDC Leh Rigzin Spalbar with regard to frequent interruptions and erratic networks of telecom services in Leh and resultant public outcry, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has initiated certain corrective measures.
The decision to this effect has been communicated to the CEC by Tripti Saxena, GM (NOW-CM) the Corporate Office BSNL New Delhi in which it has been told that an arrangement has been made to keep mobile services including SMS operational in Leh area even during OFC disturbances.
Similarly, for broadband service 17 new DSLAM have been planned in year 2012-13 in Leh area after which 2000 new broadband connections will be provided in the region. For public access to broadband facility 11 number of broadband public kiosk and WIMAX services are planned for Leh which will provide high speed broadband to remote areas. Moreover, 113 number of PCO over satellite have been planned for Leh during 2012-13 to provide telecom connectivity to villages surrounded by mountains and other natural barriers where otherwise connectivity is not possible.
As far as long distance call is concerned alternate media route to Leh via Gurez, Kargil has been examined and connectivity over satellite has been planned to enhance the performance even during OFC problem.
