JAMMU, Nov 22: Maintaining that purported move of the Union Home Ministry for announcing a series of Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) for Jammu and Kashmir was long overdue, State BJP general secretary Dr Narinder Singh has appealed the State Government to also contribute for addressing grievances of people.
“The decision of Union Home Ministry in compensating the losses caused to movable and immovable properties of border area residents in shelling from across the border shows the empathy of the Central Government but the State Government should also contribute on its part to ameliorate grievances of the border inhabitants by bringing the residents of the international boarder under the ambit of reservation,” he said in a statement, issued here today.
The BJP leader said that like the inhabitants of 285 villages of Rajouri, Nowshera, Mendhar, Haveli, Kupwara and Akhnoor who fall under the LoC category and get reservation as per the J&K Reservation Act 2004, the people living on International Border should be accorded the same benefit as they are also suffering because of border firing. For this, he added, the State Government should bring necessary changes in J&K Reservation Act 2004.
