SAMBA, Nov 15: The people from Kali and adjoining areas near Nud, on Samba- Mansar-Udhampur  road held protest demonstration against the R&B authorities for their  failure to repair road and improve its condition.
A large number of villagers from the area assembled on this road about 14 kms from the district headquarters here today and staged protest demonstration. They were raising slogans against the Minister of State for R&B concerned Javed Ahmed Dar and the Chief Engineer R&B Jammu. The people alleged that this road which has become busy due to movement of heavy traffic between Srinagar and Pathankote via Dhar Road,  was not maintained after rainy season. Road has broken at many places and even the stones and debris have not been cleared from many culverts. Landslides are also yet to be cleared.
The agitating people blocked the road for about half and hour and shouted slogans against the R&B authorities. They gave ultimatum to the   authorities to start work by Saturday otherwise, they would block the road for the entire day at Nud  thereafter.
Chief Engineer, R&B Jammu Tahseen Mustafa when contacted said that repair work has already been started on this road and  it will be improved shortly being tourist destination enroute. He said a Rs 35 crore project under CRF, has been sent to the Centre to upgrade this road. When the project is okayed, the work will be commenced soon.
