JAMMU, Nov 24: Gandhi Nagar and Gangyal police foiled major bids to make youth drug addicts with the arrest of four persons along with 15 kilograms of heroin valuing Rs 75 crore in the international market and Rs 24 lakh cash.

This was stated by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone Dr SD Singh while talking to reporters here today. DIG JSK Range Rafiq-ul-Hassan, SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta and SP South Sandeep Choudhary were also present during the press conference.
Dr Singh informed that Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) achieved a major success in its fight against drugs when during a series of raids in different parts of Jammu city and its surrounding areas, four persons were arrested by Gandhi Nagar and Gangyal Police from whom 15.3 kilograms of heroin has been recovered. Besides, Rs 24,235,00 cash and two cars were also seized during the raids. The total value of the seized heroin is more than Rs 75 crores in the international market, he added.
IGP stated that FIR Numbers 218/17 and 220/17 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, while FIR Numbers 88/17 and 89/17 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act stands registered with Gangyal Police Station.
Dr Singh further added that the four arrested persons have been identified as Rakesh Kumar alias Bobby, son of Balbir Singh of Amritsar, Punjab, Sanjeev Sharma alias Sanjay, son of Brij Lal Sharma of Indira Nagar, Jammu, Ashtyaq Ahmed, son of Kalu Hussain of Thanna Mandi, District Rajouri and Sunny Kumar, son of Hans Raj of Smailpur Kothey, Jammu.
The whole operation was launched by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and assisted by SHO Gandhi Nagar Dr Sunniya Wani, SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali, Incharge Police Post Digiana Pawan Dogra and SI Vicky Thapa under the supervision of SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
IGP further stated that, a team of District Police Poonch recovered 50 kilograms of poppy husk from a truck bearing registration number of PB12M-7284 which was coming from Kashmir via Mughal Road. Two person namely Jasdev Singh, son of Karnail Singh and Balvinder Khan, son of Sardara Khan, both residents of Punjab have been arrested in this connection.
He said, “it is a surgical strike on drug mafia and Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed in curbing the menace with iron hands.”
IGP said that the recovery is year’s biggest in Jammu region and added, “investigations into the matter are in progress and more arrests cannot be ruled out as the arrested persons may spill the beans.”
Meanwhile, Nagrota Police recovered 2.700 grams cannabis from a Tavera bearing registration number JK03D-0332 which was coming from Srinagar to Jammu. Momin Ahmed Dar, son of Gulzar Ahmed Dar of Adar Bijbehera, District Anantnag has been arrested in this connection and a case under FIR Number 253/17 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Nagrota against him, Dr Singh added.
The arrest was made by SHO Nagrota Inspector Bhushan Manhas under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Yashbir Singh and SP Rural Shivdeep Singh Jamwal.
