Shah, Jaitley among top BJP leaders to attend ‘Chae-pe-charcha’ sessions

AHMEDABAD, Nov 25:
A galaxy of central leaders, including Bharatiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani, will be present in polling booths across the state during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly ‘Mann-Ki-Baat’ programme on Sunday.
BJP leader Anil Jain told reporters here that the saffron party will launch a mass contact program – “Chai ke saath” linking’ into the timing of PM Modi’s Mann-Ki-Baat.
“This will be done across – each of Gujarat’s nearly 50,000 voting booths,” he said. The party has announced that in Sunday’s Mann-Ki-Baat programme, among others BJP chief Amit Shah will be present at Dariyapur assembly segment, a Muslim-stronghold seat in Ahmedabad. In the outgoing assembly, the seat is being represented by Congress leader Gyasuddin Sheikh.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will be present at Sabarmati, while BJP organisation general secretary Ram Lal will be present at Ellis Bridge, a known Hindutva bastion.
The Ellis Bridge seat was once represented by the Late BJP leader Haren Pandya. “The idea behind “Chai Pe Charcha” is part of electoral strategy that was so effectively made use of in 2014 Lok Sabha elections when Congress leaders had mocked at Narendra Modi’s ‘chae-wallah’ background.
They have again raked up the issue through Twitter,” senior Gujarat BJP leader Nitin Patel said.
According to BJP leaders this is also an assertion to the fact that unlike the leaders of Congress party, the former Gujarat Chief Minister and the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a self-made man.
Answering questions, the BJP leaders here say the saffron party takes every election seriously and therefore there is no big deal that a number of Union Ministers have been asked to camp or visit Gujarat for the polls. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is already considered a hot favourite for the Gujarat polls this year.
Meanwhile, the party has also said that commencing Monday, November 27, PM Modi will, starting addressing over two dozen rallies. (UNI)
