Tributes paid to Mirpur martyrs

JAMMU, Nov 25: Rich tributes were paid to thousands of martyrs of Mirpur,  who had laid down their lives on Nov  25, 1947 while fighting with the Pakistani raiders.
The programme in this connection commenced with Prabhat Pheries taken out from different parts of Jammu city and its allied colonies. The main Prabhat Pheri, consisting of a large gathering of Mirpuris, started during wee hours from Sarwal Colony and after passing through entire Bakshi Nagar area, culminated at Mirpur Shaheedi Smark, situated at Mirpur Chowk in front of the main gate of the Government Medical College Hospital Jammu.
Another function was organized at Mirpur Balidan Bhawan Arya Samaj Bakshi Nagar Jammu where Vedic Havan was performed with religious fervour and rich floral tributes were paid to the martyrs by recalling the unprecedented sacrifice of more than 18,000 innocent and unarmed men, women and children.
Many aged speakers, who had witnessed the terrible carnage at Mirpur, recalled that time through their throat- choking speeches and pathetic poems bringing tears in the eyes of the gathering.
At the end two minute silence was observed for eternal peace to the departed souls on whose sacrifice the State of Jammu and Kashmir has remained an integral part of India. The function concluded with Shanti-Path.
Meanwhile, PoJK DPs Front 1947, 65, 71 & Non-Camp (1971) also observed Martyrs Day in the memory of all nears and dears who lost their lives during aggression by Pak raiders in 1947, 65 and 71 and also during Kargil war.
The displaced persons from PoJK, led by Capt Yudhvir Singh Chib (president) assembled at Mahesh Pura Chowk at Bakshi Nagar and paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the ‘Shaheedi Samark’.  Capt Chib addressed the gathering and recalled the sacrifices of the people and Indian Army during these wars and attack by Pak raiders. DPs’ leaders Kulbir Singh Chib, Jaipal Sharma, Sakandhya Devi, R S Chib and others also spoke on the occasion.
