NEW DELHI: Attacking the Narendra Modi government on reports of dip in production levels of small car Nano, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday called for fixing accountability in the impending closure of “PM’s pet Make in India project”.
Taking to twitter, Mr Gandhi said, “PM’s pet ‘Make in India’ project just died. 33,000 crores of Gujarati taxpayer money turned to ash. Who is accountable?”
He also posted on his social media account a media report, which said that dealers of Tata Motors in most parts of the country have stopped placing orders for Nano in the last three-four months.
The report, published in a national daily, said Tata Motors ‘Nano’, the cheapest car launched in recent times, is now also among models clocking lowest monthly production and sales volume (in double digits to be precise).
As per the report, average daily production of just two Nano cars at the company’s Sanand plant was indication enough that this vehicle is now as good as obsolete.
Dealers of Tata Motors in most parts of the country have stopped placing orders for this small car in the last three-four months and the showrooms are displaying contemporary models such as Tiago, Tigor, Hexa and Nexon, the report said. (AGENCIES)
