JAMMU, Nov 26: The National Conference (NC) president and former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah today faced public wrath at Jammu and Kathua over his recent remarks that PoK is part of Pakistan.
Protesting against Farooq Abdullah’s remark that PoK belonged to Pakistan, VHP activists today tried to block his cavalcade here at Rehari, following which 12 activists of the organization were taken into preventive custody, police said.
The protesters from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal tried to stop Abdullah’s convoy at the Rehari Chowk when he was going to visit the house of a NC youth leader Tanvir Ahmad, they said.
The police immediately swung into action and took over a dozen VHP activists into preventive custody, the officials said, adding that the protesters also raised slogans against the NC leader and his party, and showed black flags to him.
“We staged the protest against Farooq Abdullah for his recent anti-national statements such as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) belongs to Pakistan,” VHP spokesperson Rajesh Kumar said.

On November 11, the NC president had claimed that PoK belonged to Pakistan and “this won’t change” no matter how many wars India and Pakistan fight against each other.
The former Chief Minister was accompanied by senior NC leaders including the party’s provincial president for Jammu and legislator Devender Singh Rana. The protest had no impact on the programme, the officials said.
Later the NC leader had to face the wrath of the vice president of Young Blood Donors Association, Surmar Singh at Kathua where he had gone to participate in a marriage ceremony at the residence of a political leader.
As Dr Abdullah came from the house of the leader an agitated Singh who pointing towards him said “why you only talk of Pakistan”.? Singh also raised slogans “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Sainik Ki Jai”.
However to avert any trouble the security men took Dr Abdullah from another side. But police did not take any action against Singh.
