SURAT (GUJARAT), Nov 26: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today held a detailed meeting with textile traders and favoured their demand for bringing about ease of procedure in the GST regime.
During the one hour interaction, at which, among others, Union Minister and BJP Election “Sah-Prabhari” for Gujarat, Dr Jitendra Singh and local Members of Parliament C.R.Patil and Darshanaben were also present, the representatives of the textile industry offered their full support to the GST and appreciated Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s prompt and positive response to each of the inputs provided by them, from time to time.
Briefing the media persons after the meeting, Arun Jaitley expressed satisfaction over the fact that the industry community of Surat, particularly textile traders, had wholeheartedly supported the GST and offered to cooperate in future as well. He said, there were some genuine grievances which were expressed by the industry representatives but these are mostly of the procedural nature, which he is also in favour of resolving in due course of time.
Dr Jitendra Singh, while responding to a query by media persons, said that Govt is always open to feedback and therefore GST is not an election issue in Surat or, for that matter, in the rest of the Gujarat as well. He said, it is just that the Congress Party and it’s leaders are trying to instigate the industrial community in the name of GST, but, they will not succeed.
Earlier, soon after his arrival here, Arun Jaitley went to Surat (West) constituency of the city and addressed a public rally.
Jaitley spoke about the importance of the “Constitution Day” being observed today and also dwelt at length on the success achieved by the Modi Government in controlling militancy in Kashmir. He said, within one year of demonetization, stone pelting had virtually come to an end in Kashmir and the pressure on terrorists was so much that anybody taking over as a commander of a militant outfit, knew that his days were numbered and that he was not going to last long.
