Altaf reviews CAMPA achievements in Chenab Forest Circle

JAMMU, Nov 16:  The Forest Department has planted 16.43 lakh trees and raised 17.46 lakh plants in its nurseries under Compensatory Aforestation Management Planning Authority (CAMPA) in six divisions of Chenab Forest Circle during the period 2010-11 till March 2012, involving a cost of Rs 6.44 crore.
For the year 2012-13 the department has set a target of planting 8.31 lakh trees and to raise 10.47 lakh in its nurseries established across the Forest Circle spread over to three districts of Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar.
The department has also taken up demarcation of the forest area for which it received funds of Rs 60.08 lakh during the year 2011-12, while it has targeted to construct 1587 pillars during the year 2012-13.
The information was given at a meeting chaired by Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmed convened to review the achievements registered in the area under the flagship aforestaion programme, CAMPA, being implemented across the State.
The meeting was told that the CAMPA works aim at massive afforestration in the degraded forest areas and creation of infrastructure, forest fire protection measures and forest demarcation works.
The Minister took division wise review of the works completed under the programme and stressed the need for the involvement of the public in the forest conservation and afforestration drive.
The meeting was also told that during the current year till October, the department distributed 148500 Cft timber in the six divisions of the Chenab Forest Circle, including Kishtwar 32000 Cft, Marwah 10500Cft, Batote, 15,000Cft, Ramban 36000 Cft, Bhaderwah, 30,0000 Cft and Doda 25,000Cft among the consumers  .

K Singh, Regional Wildlife Warden, Asif Mahmood, Conservator of Forests Chenab circle, M.M Gupta, DFO Kishtwar, Rakesh Kumar and DFO Marwah, Dr. K Anand were attended the meeting.
