SAMBA, Nov 17: The people from Kali and adjoining areas near Nud on Samba-Mansar road held protest demonstration and disrupted movement of traffic for about two hours today.
The villagers who had staged protest four days back against R&B authorities there, had warned to intensify their agitation if the concerned authorities failed to start maintenance work on this important road by Saturday. Finding no response from the R&B Samba division, they today raised barricades on the road near Kali and staged dharna.
The villagers started shouting slogans against R&B Minister and the Chief Engineer concerned. The people also raised slogans against the district administration. A large number of trucks, buses and other vehicles remained stranded on either side of the road for about two hours from 9 to 11 am.
Later, Additional DC Samba and Tehsildar besides a senior police officer moved to the site and assured the people to take up the issue on priority with R&B and get the work started on the road. The agitating people then lifted dharna and allowed movement of traffic.
