Traffic restored on Srinagar-Leh NH

SRINAGAR, Dec 8: After being closed for heavy vehicles due to snowfall yesterday, the heavy vehicles were today allowed to ply on Srinagar-Leh National Highway following improvement in weather.
An official of Traffic Police told Excelsior that all types of vehicles were allowed to proceed from Srinagar to Leh at 10.00 am today.  “Both heavy and light vehicles were allowed to ply from Srinagar and we also allowed vehicles from Leh to Srinagar,” he said, adding that there was significant improvement in weather today. The official said that one-way traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway also plied smoothly today. He said there was normal vehicular movement on Mughal Road from both sides.
Meanwhile, the night temperature in Srinagar witnessed decline by several notches today. A Meteorological Department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of -3.0 degree Celsius against the previous of -2.7 while day temperature settled at 16.0 degree Celsius. He said that Qazigund in South Kashmir recorded a low of -2.5 degree Celsius against the previous of -1.4 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in Qazigund was 15.8 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam resort recorded a low of -4.5 degree Celsius, the coldest in Valley, against the previous of -1.3 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature settled at 13.4 degree Celsius. Kupwara in North Kashmir recorded a low of -3.3 degree Celsius against the previous of -2.7 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature in Kupwara was 14.8 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg ski resort of North Kashmir recorded a low of -2.2 degree Celsius against the previous of -2.5 degree Celsius while the day temperature was  9.0 degree Celsius. Leh recorded coldest night in Jammu and Kashmir where mercury settled at -12.3 degree Celsius against the previous of -12.0 degree Celsius while maximum temperature settled at 7.6 degree Celsius. The nearby Kargil recorded a low of -7.2 degree Celsius against the previous of -7.0 degree Celsius while day temperature was  7.4 degree Celsius.
