Flights operating from Srinagar airport normally

SRINAGAR: After witnessing disruption during morning hours for the past two days, flights operated from Srinagar International Airport normally on Thursday.
However, the airfare witnessed manifold jump after the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, remained closed for three days due to snowfall and landslides.
One-way traffic was restored today on the highway and vehicles will ply from Jammu to Srinagar.
Air traffic from Srinagar airport operated normally since this morning. However, there was some disruption at Jammu airport due to poor visibility in the morning. The visibility has improved and air traffic is now operating normally at Jammu airport.
About a dozen flights to and fro Srinagar airport were cancelled yesterday due to poor visibility in the morning for several hours following fresh snowfall. Air traffic from the airport was also affected on Tuesday due to first heavy snowfall in Srinagar and poor visibility.
Due to closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, airfare from Srinagar to Jammu and Delhi witnessed manifold increase since Monday. Passengers alleged that against airfare of Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 between Srinagar and Jammu, it suddenly jumped to Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000.
Similarly airfare to Delhi and other stations also increased after the closure of the highway from Monday afternoon.
The passengers alleged that there was no control over airfare and different airlines companies were charging different rates for same distance from Srinagar. Airfare witness increase once Kashmir highway is closed, the passengers alleged. (AGENCIES)
