HC seeks report on foot bridges

SRINAGAR, Dec 15: The High Court today directed the authorities to file response as to whether there is requirement for construction of foot bridges at crossing in South Kashmir.
The direction followed after one of the Court commissioners Rizwanu Zaman Bhat submitted before the Court that there is requirement of construction of two foot bridges at crossing of Awantipora, Pampora and Khanabal, Anantnag.
“Respondents to file response by or before next date”, Division Bench of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey directed.
Counsel for the petitioner also submitted to the Court that the patch of road from Charsoo to Barsoo in Awantipora is totally in bad condition much to the annoyance of commuters.
Court in this connection directed the authorities to sit together and work out modalities and directed them to ensure that the road be smoothened for the convenience of the public and report compliance to Court by or before December 30.
Earlier, Court was apprised about the bad condition of various roads in the Valley and the Court in this regard sought latest status about the condition of these roads from the authorities.
The Court has been informed by the various counsels appearing in PIL filed by the residents of Tral area about the dilapidated conditions of various roads in the valley which include National Highway from Awantipora to Tral as also the road from Pantha Chowk to Sonawar, Srinagar.
The Civil Society has sought directions for repairing the National Highway from Jammu to Srinagar especially from Banihal to Srinagar and Srinagar to Baramulla. It also sought directions to macadamize the existing old NH1A to make it fit for vehicular traffic to the minimum international and national standards level to the convenience of general public at large.
The petitioners also sought directions to the Government to constitute a team of experts to have physical spot inspection and conduct survey of NH1A and other link roads of Kashmir valley to assess the gravity of dilapidated condition of the roads and submit a detailed report with complete remedial suggestions in a time bound period.
