JK farmers to be trained on scientific cultivation of floriculture crops

JAMMU, Nov 20: Garden Glory, a human empowerment Cooperative Ltd will train the farmers of the state in the cultivation of various floriculture crops, ornamental, medicinal and aromatic plants by providing latest research know how to them for promotion of floriculture industry to enhance their social economic growth and employment.
This was stated in a meeting of Garden Glory here today. It said Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), Member Secretary, Dr Som Dutt Tyagi is visiting Jammu soon to give final shape to ICAR schemes to benefit the farmers of the state.
It said the scheme regarding enhancement of floriculture crop in the state will be sponsored by ICAR and it will be introduced under the technical guidance of Dr Manoj Nazir, Prof V L Sheela, HoD Kestai Agriculture University Trivanthapuram, Dr Balaji Kulkarni HoD Floriculture, Karnataka and Dr T Raj Pravan of Anamalai University Department of Agriculture Tamil Nadu.
Besides for promotion of floriculture in the state, national and international conferences will be held, best farmers award will be instituted which include Rose Award and Galdiolus Award. In addition to this floriculture shows will be conducted from time to time and documentary on scientific cultivation of floricultural crops will be released.
The meeting was chaired by Ramesh Tickoo and it discussed the potential of cut flowers including Gladiolus, Helicominica and star of Benthelem.
