Yogi promises to double income of farmers by 2022

LUCKNOW, Dec 23: The Government will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to double the income of farmers, announced chief minister Yogi Adityanath here on Saturday.
After paying floral tributes to former premier Chaudhary Charan Singh on his 115th birth anniversary in the Vidhan Bhavan complex, the chief minister said pointed out that it was an irony that even after 70 years of country’s Independence farmers were still a deprived lot.
Charan Singh’s birthday is celebrated as Kisan Diwas. Thirty-two farmers, including women, were honoured on the occasion. Ten of them were given cash aid of Rs100,00 each, 10 were given Rs75,000 each and 12 were given Rs50,000 each.
Adityanath said his Government had planned several schemes aimed at benefitting the farmers and a beginning had been made with loan waivers, which helped ease farmers’ burden to some extent. The government was striving to provide seeds and fertilisers to farmers on time, he added. (PTI)
While pointing out that the loan-waiver decision in the very first Cabinet meeting was evidence that the Bharatiya Janta Party government was farmer-friendly Government, the Chief Minister said that he was committed to doubling the farmers’ income by 2022.
Recalling Charan Singh’s contribution to the farmers’ cause, Adityanath said that the stalwart leader had struggled all his life to better the lot of farming community.
To carry Charan Singh’s legacy forward, the BJP Government was making all-out efforts to provide water for irrigation to all farmers and to increase production. “The nation’s happiness depends on the farmers’ happiness,” he said.
In his speech on the occasion, agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi said the Government was doing its best for the upliftment of farmers by providing them higher prices for their produce.   (UNI)
