Bhagat Singh Chowk at Lahore

Sir,
This has reference to the news item” Pak court stops renaming of roundabout after Bhagat Singh” D.E. dated 17 November 2012.It has been reported that some fanatic organisations like  Jamaat-ud-Dawah and Tehrik Hurmat-e-Rasool are opposing the move to rename the Shadman Chowk at Lahore as Bhagat Singh Chowk. It is praise worthy that Dilkash Lahore Committee set up to beautify the city and authorised to finalise the names of roads and Chowks etc has already cleared the renaming proposal. Sardar Bhagat Singh or other freedom fighters  who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of people of India ( Pre divided) should be remembered as martyrs only without linking them with any religion or territory as their sacrifice was for the whole country and for all country men.
Moreover, this is the place where this legendry martyr was hanged along with his other two companions  and hence there can not be any other place more suitable to be named after him. There are many prominent places and roads in a India named after great personalities belonging to minorities especially Muslims like Humayun road, Aurangzeb road and Maulana Azad road in National capital and other parts of the country and there has been hardly a protest or demand to change these names. It is appealed to the groups and people opposing the move renaming of the chowk as Bhagat Singh Chowk that religious factor should not play while awarding honour to great martyrs of undivided India.
Yours etc….
D.R.Bhagat
