MUMBAI:The much-anticipated big gala — the second wedding reception of Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma (popular as Virushka) — is being held in Mumbai, which is the home for both Bollywood and cricket, on Tuesday.
The couple, who had a low-key marriage at Tuscany in Italy and then held the first reception in New Delhi, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, held yet another reception for the big-wigs of the city this evening at St Regis hotel in Lower Parel in central Mumbai.
The wedding reception was being held at the lavish Astor Ballroom of the hotel, which is located on the ninth floor of the hotel and can accommodate around 300 people at a time. Like the New Delhi wedding reception, the reception in Mumbai too started at 2030 hours.
While the Delhi reception was for the family and close friends of the two families, the event in Mumbai was for their high-profile colleagues from the film and cricket worlds. Cricketers like Sandeep Patil and his wife, Kuldeep Yadav, Manish Pandey, Umesh Yaadav along with his wife, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sunil Gavaskar and his wife, shuttler Saina Nehwal, while from Bollywood celebrities like Boman Irani along with his wife, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and wife Anupama, and Rajkumar Hirani with his family as well as writer Amish Tripathi were among the guests who attended the couple’s wedding reception here.
As the night goes on, many Bollywood celebrities, industrialists and politicos are expected to attend the event. Anushka’s co-stars Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, Anushka’s mentor and head of Yash Raj Films Aditya Chopra, wife and Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee, film director-producer Karan Johar and Katrina Kaif are likely to attend in late night.
There was heavy security outside the venue, as bouncers patrolled the walkway leading up to the entrance and manned the barricades. Meanwhile, the countless fans of Virat and Anushka as well as the media kept a close vigil outside the gates to the swish hotel. (AGENCIES)
