JAMMU, Nov 21: Zila Sainik Welfare Officer (ZSWO), Jammu, Col (Retd) JDS Kotwal, under the aegis of Brigadier RS Langeh, Director, Sainik Welfare Department, J&K, visited tehsil Akhnoor along with his office staff and took stock of the grievances of the ex-servicemen (ESM), widows, war widows and their dependents.
Col Kotwal apprised the gathering of ex-servicemen, war widows, widows and their next of kin, about the various welfare schemes being extended by the Central and State Government for their welfare.
These welfare schemes included provision of relief from Central Government to non-pensioner ex-servicemen of 65 years and above age, enhancement of education scholarship from Rs 200, 400 and 600 to Rs 1000 per month per child for two children of ex-servicemen upto the rank of Havaldar, increase in the relief of handicapped children from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 per month, extension of period for preparation of ECHS Smart Cards and enrolment of ESM in DSC as 2nd career option.
Col Kotwal also informed the gathering that on the demise of ex-servicemen, their next of kin are entitled for a relief of Rs 5000 from the nearest Station Headquarters out of CSD Canteen as Assured Decent Last Rites Scheme, in addition to other financial aids like demise grant of Rs 1000 from State, Rs 5000 from KSB and Rs 5000 from respected Record Office.
A sum of Rs 9200 on account of Death Grant and OTI were distributed on spot. Besides various queries raised by the ESM were also explained on spot.
