NEW DELHI, Nov 21: Member Parliament from Congress Party, Madan Lal Sharma today took up the issue of fourth bridge over river Chenab and four-laning of Jammu-Akhnoor road with the Union Defence Secretary, Shashi Kant Sharma in the Union capital here today.
In a meeting with the Union Home Secretary, the MP who is also member, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence sought the intervention of the Shashi Kant for the further development of border areas along the international border and LoC in Jammu, Akhnoor and other areas. Mr Sharma pointed out that the issue of four-laning of the Jammu-Akhnoor road and the construction of a fourth bridge over river Chenab in Akhnoor tehsil had been pending for too long despite a sympathetic view taken by the Defence Minister, A K Antony.
The Congress MP further said that there was chaotic traffic from Jammu to Akhnoor presently and the growing urbanization, had left hardly any vacant space. He said a bridge down stream the old Akhnoor bridge would help to prove alternate connectivity and also decrease traffic load on two bridges. Moreover, it would be more vital in defence point of view.
