out a protest rally towards Civil Secretariat in support of their demands near Press Club here today.
A large number of workers, under the banner of All J&K Volunteer Retirement Employees Association led by Dev Raj Bali assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club here in the morning and held protest demonstration there for some time. In this protest programme, a large number of VRS, GHS and normally retired workers of the Transport Corporation participated.
After holding protest, the workers then took out rally towards Civil Secretariat. They were raising slogans against the SRTC management and the State Transport Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon. As they moved out on the road towards Gumat, the strong police contingent stopped them and did not allow them to move ahead. Despite resistance, the workers were not allowed to move towards Secretariat, moreover, Section 144 CrPC has already been imposed by the district authorities.
These agitating retired employees are demanding benefits of 6th Pay Commission and release of pending 126 slabs of COLA. They alleged that Government has failed to fulfill its commitment made with them before according VRS. The Government had lured and claimed to clear all the dues with in 60 days but even after three years, the dues of the employees were not cleared, they maintained.
Besides Mr Bali several other members of the Association addressed the gathering. They included Balwinder Singh, Ashok Kumar Sharma, Tarlok Singh, D N Sharma, Sain Mohd, Ehsan Elahi, Surjit Singh and Jasbir Singh.
