Mountaineering Association organises 8th Udhampur District, 5th Reasi District Sport Climbing C’ships

JAMMU, Apr 29: Mountaineering Association of J&K organised 8th Udhampur District and 5th Reasi District Sport Climbing Championships at Sprawling Buds School here today.
Bindia Sharma, a Sub Junior national climber won the prestigious Girls title in the Udhampur District Sport Climbing Championship.
Bindia who entered the girls category this year only faced a tough competition from Rupali Verma who also topped the 40ft high wall in the final leading to a super final in which Bindia emerged the winner. Vanshika Gomdyan had to be content with a Bronze medal.
Similarly, in the Sub Junior Boys and Sub Junior Girls Category there was a tough competition among the budding climbers with most of them climbed to the top of the wall in the semifinal round.
However, in the final round Abhay Singh and Aksha Shah left other climbers behind to clinch the Sub Junior Boys and Sub Junior Girls titles respectively. Amandeep Singh and Shubam Khajuria clinched the second and third place in the Sub Junior Boys while the second and third places in the Sub Junior Girls categories were bagged by Avantika and Monika Sharma respectively.
In the Boys category Sumit Singh toppled Bhanu Partap Singh to bag the title. Third place was secured by Anuj Bhardwaj.
Results in the Men’s category were on expected lines with Chetan Sharma, an experienced climber bagging the title in style.
In Reasi District Sport Climbing Championship in which most of the climbers were participating for the first time Sachin Sharma became the new champion in the Boys category whereas Mohd Sajad Mir and Keofeeka Kafi bagged the Sub Junior Boys and Girls titles respectively.
In Boys category, Sachin Sharma, Asif Bhat and Rahil Mir secured first, second and third positions respectively.
In Sub Junior Boys, Mohd Sajad Mir secured first position while the second and third positions were claimed by Mandeep Singh and Rakesh Kumar respectively.
In Girls category, Keofeeka Kafi, Sindhiya Sharma and Mehnaj Mir claimed the first three rankings respectively.
On the concluding ceremony, Ashwani Sharma, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) was the chief guest who along with Sanjit Khajuria, who was the guest of honour, presented medals to the winners.
While addressing the gathering, Ashwani Sharma lauded the efforts of the Association to promote the game to various parts of the State. He promised all possible help for the conduct of any future championship.
Among others present were Yogeshwar Kumar, vice president of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Rahul Sharma and Ramesh Khajuria, Directors of Sprawling Buds School, Vishav Mohan Sharma, Principal of National Academy, Udhampur, Ashwani Katoch, Principal of Amba Kids, Panthal, Reasi, Navneet Gupta, Secretary of Snow Trail Mountaineers, Anil Kumar, Nikhil Kumar, Satish Bhan and Sonam Sidharth.
