KATHUA, Dec 30: The resident of Keerian Gandyal took out a protest march to express their anguish over the alleged illegal mining in river Ravi.
The residents including the women under the banner of Ravi River Action Committee took out protest demonstration against the Government and blocked the vehicular movement at Shaheedi Chowk.
They raised slogans against the Government, Mining Department, Pollution Control Board Department, Flood Control Department, National Green Tribunal and District Administration Kathua for their failure to stop illegal mining in river Ravi, which is posing a serious threat to environment and 10,000 inhabitants of Keerian Gandyal.
Later, the protesters marched towards Deputy Commissioner (DC) office, where they submitted a memorandum to ACR Jatindera Misra and DMO Kathua.
While addressing the protesters, Ravi River Action Committee, President Mohinder Pal Sharma condemned the callous attitude of the Government towards the residents of Keerian Gandyal. He alleged that they are fighting against all the environment threat since past two months, but the Government is not initiating any action against illegal mining.
The protesters warned the Government of dire consequences if no action has been initiated against the illegal mining from river Ravi.
