JAMMU, Dec 30: The Department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, in collaboration with Cankids…KidsCan, an NGO working for Childhood Cancer organized a function in the pediatric oncology ward to distribute gifts among the ailing children.
Prof Dr Sunanda Raina, Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Sunanda interacted with the children under treatment in pediatric cancer ward and distributed gifts among them.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Sunanda informed the gathering that pediatric cancer ward was established in the year 2014 with the support of Cankids…KidsCan. She said since then more than 120 children with cancer have been registered which include approx 90 patients of Leukemia, 7 patients of Wilm’s Tumor, 6 patients of Hodgkins Lymphoma, 6 patients of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, 4 patients of Rhabdomyoscaroma and 2 patients of Retinoblastoma.
“These children are being provided treatment and investigations including chemotherapy, flocytometry and Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) free of cost with the support from Cankids…KidsCan”, she added.
On the occasion, mementos as a token of gratitude were presented to Raju Goel, Puneet Arora, Gaurav Chopra and Rajesh Sharma for extending their generous support to the pediatric cancer ward.
The event was organized under the overall supervision of Dr Rekha Harish, Prof and Head, Department of Pediatrics. Dr Sanjeev K Digra, Associate Prof and Consultant Incharge, pediatric oncology ward, was the organizing secretary of the event.
