BHADERWAH, Jan 7: The Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) Irshad Ahmed, who was martyred in an IED blast in Sopore yesterday, was laid to rest with full State honours at his home town Chinote, here today.
Thousands of people attended the funeral procession and wreath laying ceremony of the martyr, which was carried out at Chinote graveyard.
DDC Doda Bhawani Rakwal, SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir Khatana, Deputy Commandant of IRP Battalion Ranjit Singh, army personnel and other officers from the district administration were also present during the funeral procession and wreath laying ceremony. After gun salute, the body of the martyr was laid to rest.
It is to mention that the militants carried out a deadly IED blast yesterday morning in Sopore town of Baramulla district, when ASI Irshad along with three constables was performing his duties at gole market near main chowk Sopore. All the four policemen were martyred in this deadly IED blast.
“Irshad was the only bread earner of the family and is survived by 72-years-old ailing mother, wife, two sons–Nadeem Irshad (19) and Sahil Irshad (10), two daughters–Fiza Irshad (16) and Toiba Bano (13)”, one of the relatives told the Excelsior. He appealed to the DGP to speed up the relief process for the sake of martyr’s family.
Several women from Bhaderwah and its adjoining areas reached the martyr’s house to console the family. The martyr’s neighbours described him as a “go-getter”, who always had a smile on his face.
When contacted, SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir Khatana described martyred ASI Irshad Ahmed as an outstanding officer of Jammu and Kashmir Police. “We today paid respect to him and we have all the sympathies with the family,” he added.
“Immediate relief of Rs 1 lakh has been handed over to family as per departmental rules”, he said and assured that ex-gratia relief and other benefits under SRO-43 under new policy will be provided to the martyr’s family as soon as possible”, SSP added.
