BISHNAH, Jan 7: Senior Congress leader, Mohinder Bhardwaj has said that despite having a unique position in the political firmament of Jammu region and a nerve centre of agro-economy, Bishnah and all its adjoining areas have become a victim of official apathy. Those elected by the people to safeguard their interests in the Assembly have in fact become their tormentors.
Addressing an impressive meeting of local people and Congress workers here today, Bhardwaj said that Bishnah’s unique position is reflected by the fact that the area is home to diverse political and ideological thoughts and had been the ‘Karma Bhoomi’ of many leading Congress leaders such as Pandit Trilochan Dutt, Bhagat Chahju Ram and Babu Parmanand.
The fact that diversity of political thoughts exist in the area is an ode to the true democratic spirit of the people. “The destiny of this sub-region of Jammu is bound to change and people will soon teach a lesson to BJP-PDP Government and the National Conference MLA of the area for taking them far- granted. The present and in the recent past MLA have done nothing for the area except concentrating on their own economic well-being,” he alleged.
Elaborating on the political significance of Bishnah, he said it was the centre of a pond comprising of over half a dozen Assembly constituencies. “The political ripple effect of a Congress wave, as has been in the past, will once again start from this area and spread all over. The coming Panchayat and civic body elections will provide the Congress workers and people with an opportunity to prepare for battles royal ahead in the form of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” he added.
Bhardwaj, reiterated his commitment for developing Bishnah as a satellite town to Jammu that would entail overall development of all sub-towns.
Sounding a bugle for coming political and electoral battles he said the BJP-PDP Govt should take remedial measures to resolve basic problems of the people.
Former ministers Gurbachan Kumari Rana and Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, former legislator Ashok Sharma also spoke on the occasion and criticized BJP for its anti-Jammu stance. Among others present included Ashok Dubey, Vijay Tagotra, Avinash Sharma, Yashpal Bhagat, Rajesh Sharma, Darshan Sharma, Ranjeet Singh, Sunita Kundal, Ajay Kumar and Master Prem Sharma.
