NPP claims tough contest against NC-Cong

KATHUA, Nov 23: NPP supremo, Prof. Bhim Singh after releasing manifesto of the party in the election of Legislative Council from J&K Panchayats last evening declared contest against alleged authoritarian, ‘corrupt’ and ‘undemocratic’ NC-Congress alliance in the State.
“J&K is holding Upper House election from Panchayats after a gap of 35 years to elect four members of the Legislative Council. Two MLCs shall be elected from Kashmir province and two from Jammu Pradesh according to the representation of the People’s Act, J&K. It should be noted that J&K is not governed by the Constitution of India as it has its own Constitution and representation of the People’s Act, J&K under which all elections to the Legislative Assembly and Council are governed,” Prof Bhim Singh maintained.
He said Panthers party has put up its candidates in all the four constituencies. Anita Thakur & Sarpanch Mohd. Rafiq Chandel are contesting from Jammu Pradesh whereas Mr. Maqbool Malk & Dr. Iqbal Wani are its candidates from Kashmir province. Panthers party is having ‘Bicycle’ as its election symbol being a recognized political party.
Prof. Singh in his whirlwind election tour starting from Kashmir valley on Novembe 21 addressed more than 100 rallies in Kashmir valley, in Jammu Pradesh; Banihal, Ramban, Kud, Chenani, Udhampur, Katra and other places. This morning he addressed rallies of the Sarpanchs and Panchs at Samba, Kugal-Hiranagar, Kathua, Basantpur, Basohli and other places. He was accompanied by Panthers party MLA, Yashpaul Kundal, Anita Thakur, Mohd. Rafiq Chandel, another candidate of the party from Jammu province, Shiv Charan Singh, provincial general secretary, Rajesh Padgotra, Khajoor Singh Sarpanch and others.
In his address to the Panchs and Sarpanchs, Prof. Singh called on them to support and vote for Panthers party’s candidates who represent the will of the people and the voice of the rural folk. He said that Panthers party is the only which can ensure empowerment of the Panchayats and bring appropriate law for the introduction of 73rd & 74th Amendments so that the Panchayats in J&K are duly empowered and made functional as it is happening in the rest of the country.
