SRINAGAR: Security forces averted a major tragedy when they detected a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants in the city outskirts on Srinagar-Baramulla road on Saturday, when separatists had called for a general strike against the killing of civilians in the Valley.
Traffic on the Srinagar to north Kashmir has been suspended and entire area has been sealed. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) summoned to defuse the IED.
Official sources said that a Road Opening Party (ROP) of security forces noticed an IED planted by militants on main road in the city outskirts. The area was immediately sealed and traffic suspended as a precautionary measure.
Since, it was early in the morning besides strike called by separatists, not much traffic was on the road, they said adding traffic has been diverted through Zainakote.
The BDS was on the job to defuse the IED, they said adding further details are awaited. (agencies)
