SRINAGAR, Jan 15: Desc-ribing much awaited construction of Kapran-Desa and Sadhna Top Tunnels as important projects benefiting people directly, the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President GA Mir urged upon both State and Centre Governments to take immediate effective measures for construction of these tunnels in order to ensure safety and hassle-free movement of the people.
A delegation from Karnah led by senior Congress leader Asgar Ali Khan today called on JKPCC chief GA Mir appealing that a tunnel connecting Kupwara with Karnah via Sadhna Top must be constructed on priority basis in order to ensure safety of people especially in winters.
The delegation also told the Congress President that people of Karnah remain cut off from rest of the Valley in winter months besides they suffer human losses due to snow avalanches on Sadhna Top. The people have been facing great difficulties on account of essentials, medical facilities and other necessities of the life, the delegation added.
GA Mir while expressing serious concern over the difficulties confronting people on account of much awaited construction of some important tunnels in the State said that Kapran Desa tunnel which was approval by Centre Government has failed to invite attention of the State Government or had been deliberately halted the construction process of the tunnel merely on political lines.
He further said that State Government has miserably failed to take effective measures for construction of tunnel at Sadhna Top which has cost dozens of lives, so far, due to avalanche. This is very unfortunate that despite loss of lives, Government seems not concerned above the wellbeing and safety of the people, Mir added.
Mir assured the delegations that Congress party would vigorously take up the matter with both State and Centre Governments laying emphasis for construction of these tunnels in order to ensure hassle-free movement and safety of people.
