Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 24: In order to generate new ideas and introduce more welfare schemes for the police personnel including the families of martyrs, a joint meeting of Executive and Managing Committees of Jammu and Kashmir Police Parivar was held at Police Headquarters (PHQ)) here this afternoon. Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad presided the meeting, which was first meeting of its kind and was attended by Chairperson, Police Parivar Managing Committee, Kiran Prasad and other members. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasad sought reports with regard to the implementation of the schemes which are in force and asked the officers to make the policies more transparent. He said that while providing loans and the assistance under different schemes, it should be ensured that the benefit goes to the deserving personnel. He stressed for quick disbursement of welfare relief to the families of those personnel who achieve martyrdom while performing their professional duties. Highlighting the significance of contributory fund, the DGP said that the fund has been raised to provide relief to the personnel and there is need to further promote this spirit for the welfare of the force. He said that welfare of jawans and officers should be our mission and we should work together to strengthen the fund with its utilization in a justified manner. The DGP emphasized to ponder new schemes for providing succor to the police personnel, their families including the wards of deceased personnel. Since the funds are generated through the contribution made by all ranks of the force on monthly basis, the amount should be utilized for their welfare only, said the DGP. Earlier Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) PHQ S.P. Vaid apprised the meeting about the measures taken for the welfare of serving, retired personnel and the families of martyrs. He said that a large number of personnel have been benefited through these measures by providing financial assistance, besides scholarships for their wards to continue their studies in different fields. Inspector General of Police Headquarters (PHQ) A.K. Choudhary, through a power point presentation apprised the meeting about the welfare schemes in force and the personnel benefited. He said that the schemes have been reviewed from time to time to make them effective to meet out the requirements of the personnel. The meeting discussed in detail the possibilities of easing the procedure required and enhancing the assistance under different criteria. It was decided that the decision to generate more resources could be taken in the Central Police Welfare Committee Fund meeting for which modalities are being chalked out. Upgradation of police public schools established at range level was discussed and it was decided that newly established schools would be brought parallel to the schools at Srinagar and Jammu in a phased manner. Further improvement in the existing health care facilities being provided to the personnel also came under discussion in detail. It was told that the health schemes which are in force in other States would be considered and their adoption would be discussed. Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGPs, K. Rajendra Kumar, Dr. Ram Lubhaya, and Navin Aggarwal, IGPs H. K. Lohia, Abdul Ghani Mir, M. Sulaiman Salaria, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Farooq Khan, Kamal Saini, Yoginder Koul and Alok Puri, DIGs, S. S. Khandare, J. P. Singh, Johny William and R. P. Resutra, AIGPs, G. H. Bhat, A. A. Kakroo, Ranjit Singh Sambyal and Shabir Ahmed, lady members of Police Parivar Managing Committee and other senior police officers.
