4 notorious drug peddlers arrested

SRINAGAR, Jan 17: Police while continuing its drive against drugs arrested four drug peddlers in Safakadal and Soura areas of the Srinagar City and seized a huge quantity of contraband substances including 1902 bottles of codeine phosphate and about 11520 tablets of Spasmoproxyvan today.
A police spokesman said acting on a specific information, a police party of Srinagar police headed by In-Charge Police Post, Bagyas, SI Aijaz Ahmad and In-charge Police Post, Noorbagh, SI Sheikh Aijaz laid a naka in Chattabal area under the supervision of SDPO MR Gunj, S M Shafi. During the naka checking, an auto load carrier bearing registration number JK01N/ 5982 was intercepted and recovered 400 units of codeine phosphate packed in two cardboard boxes.
“On questioning, the accused driver confessed which led to seizure of more contraband substances including 483 units of codeine phosphate and 11520 tablets of Spasmoproxyvan, which were recovered from the Parimpora area,” he said
A case with FIR Number 04/2018 under section 8/21, 22 of NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Safakadal and investigation taken up. More recoveries are also expected.
In an another instance, A police party of Police Station Soura headed by SHO Soura, Ayaz Geelani, and supervised by SDPO Hazratbal, Rameez Rashid Bhat, intercepted an Alto 800 car bearing registration number JK01X-7020 and recovered 1019 bottles of codeine phosphate from the vehicle. Three persons identified as Mudasir Sultan Bhat, a resident of Sir Syed Abad Bemina, Feroz Ahmad Khanday, a resident of Bilal Colony Qamarwari and Faisal Ayoub Sheikh, a resident of MIG Colony Bemina who were boarding the vehicle were also arrested, he added
In this regard a case with FIR Number 07/2018 under Section 8/22 NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Soura and investigation of the case is going on.
“On preliminary investigation, it came to fore that this huge consignment of contraband substances was meant for supply to the drug peddlers who then used to sell these drugs to the youth of the area,” he further added.
