Mirpur Shaheedi Diwas celebrated

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Nov 24: Mirpur Shaheedi Diwas, which falls on 10th Maghar, was observed here today with traditional solemnity and sobriety, under the aegis of Mirpur Mahajan Sabha. A large number of Mirpuris assembled at Mirpur Shaheed Samarak at Mahesh Pura to pay floral tributes to the martyrs of Mirpur who made the supreme sacrifice on this day, sixty-five years ago, to preserve the integrity of the State and the country. Various speakers led by president of the Sabha, Sanjay Gupta, eulogized their sacrifices and exhorted the participants to follow their footsteps. The participation of the Ex-servicemen league in the function added grace to the occasion. The students along with the bands of Shiksha Bhawan Higher Secondary School and the Spring Blossom Public School, Bakshi Nagar, rented the air with patriotic slogans and music. Later the participants in the form of a rally, moved to Samiriti Bhawan, Gurha (Bakshi Nagar), where a blood donation camp and a free medical checkup centre was organised. The day was also observed with great fervour by inhabitants of Mirpur, presently putting up at Adarsh Colony in Udhampur. The hawan was also performed on the occasion. Various speakers remembered the sacrifices of thousands of people of Mirpur and demanded their due compensation from the Central Government for which they have already been agreed. They exhorted upon the inhabitants to continue their struggle for their due rights and demanded the Government to redress their long pending demands. They also demanded liberation of PoK from the Pakistan for merging with the Country so that they could return to their homes.
