JAMMU, Jan 19: Institutional Ethics Committees (IEC), Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu today held a meeting under the chairmanship of Dr Kuldeep Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Jammu (JU).
The meeting was held today in the office chamber of the Principal, GMC, Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina. All the institutional and non-institutional members of IEC were present in the meeting. Various research projects were deliberated and provisional approval was granted in their favour.
Dr Vishal R Tandon, Co-ordinator/Moderator IEC, GMC Jammu, presented the new Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines issued in December 2017 and apprised the committee members that now onwards genetic and environmental studies and studies on biomedical products shall also come under the ambit of the IEC, GMC Jammu.
He further stressed upon the mandatory requirement of registration and accreditation of IEC with Central Drugs and Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO). The quorum has been redefined under the said guidelines. Further, a direction has been given that at least 50% of the members should be institutional and 50% of the members should be non-institutional. In light of this, need was expressed to reconstitute IEC as per the new guidelines, if deemed fit by Principal, GMC Jammu, who carries this right.
Dr Vijay Khajuria, member secretary, apprised that all the members are being trained on good clinical practice and all the necessary steps have been taken for accreditation and registration of IEC, GMC Jammu.
Dr Sunanda Raina expressed satisfaction over the working of IEC and said that any assistance from her office shall be granted.
Dr Shashi Gupta, Dr Annil Mahajan, Dr Rekha Harish, Dr Sunil Sachdeva, Dr Ghanshyam Dev Gupta, Dr Subhash Bhardwaj, Dr Kailash Thaker and Gurdeep Singh Sasan were the prominent members who attended the meeting.
