JAMMU, Jan 22: Taking exception to the statement of Union Home Minister Rajnath that “won’t hesitate to cross border”, additional general secretary J&K National Conference, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal said that it smacks of a war cry and war mongering which does not behove a person of his position and authority in the Union Govt and not befitting the second most populous country and the largest democracy in the world against a country one fifth (1/5) the size and population of India.
“It is unfortunately the language of an arrogant boaster and a bully. This will not help matters but only aggravate tension and animosity in the region,” Dr Kamaal said while talking to party functionaries at Sher-i- Kashmir Bhawan.
The NC leader was informing about his assessment of the visit to border belt of Samba tehsil, including a public interaction at village Ban-glaad.
Dr Kamaal said that wars between the two since partition of the Indian sub- continent in 1947, 1965, 1971, and the short Kargil war in 1999 had yielded nothing but death destruction and heightened hatred and bickering between the two countries in which none was the victor and people the worst sufferers. “It is high time to accept that unrest in J&K since last almost three decades has it genesis in the partition of the Indian subcontinent 70 years ago which reached its nadir in late eightees – early ninetees,” he said and added that the belligerent attitude of Union Home Minister is perhaps timed with eyes on the upcoming elections to several State Assemblies and the 2019 Parliament election.
Dr Kamaal opined that if Prime Minister Modi wants to shape the future course of Indian history then he should waste no time in coming to grips with the situation and settle the biggest and perhaps the only impediment in ushering lasting peace and harmony in the region- the “Kashmir imbroglio” a festering legacy of the partition the oldest on the agenda of the UNS. “War cries and cries of ten bullets for every bullet fired given by some of the members of his Cabinet will hardly help,” NC leader maintained.
