JAMMU, Nov 25: SKUAST-J has introduced MBA (Agribusiness) degree programme and opened a new faculty as Agribusiness Management, which will cater the need of MBA in Agribusiness degree programme.
The programme aims at developing agribusiness leaders and entrepreneurs with a global perspective and strong commitment to sustainable growth of agriculture and rural development.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dilip K Arora, informed that the Agribusiness is the business of food, agricultural commodity and fiber production and the technology necessary to change a raw material or an idea into a new product or business on global basis.
He further added that Agribusiness courses in SKUAST-Jammu have been designed to prepare students for a wide range of job opportunities in agribusiness and business. The school will give full support to the students in their placements with a separate Placement Centre and Counseling cell. He further informed that career opportunities in agribusiness are mainly in the sectors like ware housing, retail sector, oil and seed companies, pesticide companies, fertilizer companies, etc.
The programme offers training in the use of business, marketing, financial management, economics and computer applications to address agribusiness management and agricultural systems with an understanding of how the market economy works and the appropriate role of Government regulation.
The first batch of the course will be started with effect from January 2013 as special session and the selection criteria for admission to the students will be on the basis of 50% weightage on CAT/CMAT/MAT/JMET score, 4% on diversified group, 15% on group discussions, 10% each on presentations and personal interview and 10, 3 and 2% on academic score at graduation, 12th and 10th level, respectively. Students having graduate degree in any discipline can seek admission in the Course.
