JAMMU, Jan 28: All J&K OBC Maha-Sabha today held a ‘mashal rally’ in Jammu city to press the Government for providing 27% reservation to OBC candidates in State Government services and also provide reservation in promotion to OBC, SC and ST employees.
Carrying mashals and banners in their hands and raising slogans in support of their demands, scores of people under the banner of OBC Maha-Sabha started marching from Press Club, Jammu and passed through many bazaars including Jewel Chowk and Lower Gumat.
The protesting OBC people alleged that OBC masses have nil representation in the State Legislative Assembly/ Legislative Council, who can raise crying voices of this segment of the society. “There is also almost nil representation of OBCs in the State administration. OBC masses are still living a life of internal slavery and segment needs political reservation”, they added.
They demanded implementation of 27% reservation for OBCs in state Government services as per Supreme Court judgement, simplifying procedure for issue of OSC/OBC certificate, continuation of reservation in promotion for SC, ST and OBC, enhancement of creamy layer limit from Rs 4.5 lakh to 8 lakh and issuance of OBC certificate for centre services as per State Government Circular No 07 of 2008.
“The State OBC masses have at present 47 % population in the State but still their condition is pathetic and they are forced to hold district-wise rallies on the roads for their rights”, the protesting OBC members said and appealed the MLAs/ MLCs to raise their issues in the ongoing Assembly Session.
