“We are the tenants of commercial spaces at Srinagar Airport for many years by virtue of bids tendered by us for using such spaces on payment of license fees to Airport Authority of India,” the protesters said.
They said recently a tender was floated for leasing out the entire space at airport to a master concessionaire who would in turn run it as per his convenience.
“The qualification for tendering as a concessionaire was fixed in such a way that hardly any local entrepreneur could qualify,” they said.
They alleged that the condition for qualifying as a concessionaire was made deliberately difficult so that no local entrepreneur could be able to participate in the absence of having a minimum annual turnover of Rs 6.50 crore.
As per the protesters, this action will render hundreds of employees jobless as the move would deprive them of their means of livelihood.
They said notices have been served to those whose lease is valid till 2019 to close the shops within six months.
