SAMBA, Feb 7: An event was organized under theme ‘Main Kya Banungi’ at MV International School (MVIS) by district administration to felicitate women achievers of the State.
Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda, was the chief guest on the occasion. Well known women achievers from different domains were also present along with girl students of MV International School and nearby Government schools.
On the occasion, school girls dressed as female celebrities who had excelled in different fields, spoke on the topic ‘Mai Kya Banungi’ describing their favourite women achievers. They enacted their role models like Boxer Mary Kom, ICICI Bank president Chanda Kochhar, Environmentalist Sunita Narain, Mathematician Shakuntla Devi and India’s first female IPS officer, Kiran Bedi.
SP Rural Shaheen Wahid, RJ 98.3 FM Shwetima, first Mrs India from J&K Meenu Gupta, Lt Col Sonia Anand and Zumba Instructor Arti Mahajan shared their rich experiences and mantra of success with students. The students also presented nukkad natak, enactment and group songs on the theme Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
Speaking at the event, DC outlined the broad spectrum of the scheme which involves mass communication campaign and survival, protection and education of the girl child. She called for empowerment of the women in the society and stoppage of illegal practices like dowry as one of the main reasons that a girl is seen as liability.
She said that efforts have been made to enroll female children who have left education. She urged the participants to support the district administration in view of their extensive outreach and acceptability in the society. She also complimented MV International School for their support in organizing the event.
In the end, all the women achievers were presented mementos by the district administration.
