Establishment, upgradation of trauma centres expedited

JAMMU, Nov 27: To ensure comprehensive medical services to the patients suffering from traumatic injuries the process of establishing and upgrading the trauma centres has been expedited.
The State Government has been pursuing the project as per the Memorandum of Understanding, which it had signed with the Union Government.
M. K. Dwivedi, Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education said the Union Government has identified various hospitals in the State under the revised scheme for developing a network of trauma centres along 11th Plan period.
“Of the ten sanctioned trauma centres under the Central funding, building for the seven centres has been completed and made functional which included Government Hospital, Murgund, Kangan, District Hospital (DH) Kargil, Emergency Hospital, Qazigund, SNM, Hospital, Leh, Trauma Hospital, Gund, Ganderbal, Trauma Hospital, Ramban and Trauma, Centre, Thatri,” he said, ” adding, ” District Hospital Anantnag, Udhampur, Kathua are under construction.”
He further informed that against the amount of Rs 20.28 crore released by the Union Government, Rs 10.60 has been utilised so far.
On the manpower issue, Mr Dwivedi added, “302 posts of different categories have been sanctioned for seven trauma centres and for the remaining three centres, the creation of manpower is under process and for the time being these three centres are being run through internal arrangement basis.” He also said that five trauma centres, including Trauma Centre, Lower Munda, Trauma Centre, Lawapura, Accidental Hospital, Ghagwal, Trauma Hospital, Khilani and Accidental Hospital, Chowki Chowra are being constructed under the State plan for which Rs 799.83 lakh have been utilised so far.
On the deployment of ambulances, he said the matter has been taken up with the Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways for providing 12 ambulances by the Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department.
Mr Dwivedi said that traumatic injuries required specialised and multidisciplinary treatment and updgradation of trauma centres would help in ensuring better treatment facilities to the patients in accident prone zones.
