The protesters led by Beopar Mandal president, Tejinder Singh, blocked Jammu-Pathankot Highway and disrupted vehicular movement for more than three hours. They were demanding removal of barricades which create impediments in crossing the Highway at Main Chowk.
“The district administration has installed barricades at Main Chowk and blocked crossing towards main approach roads of Samba town. We have to travel two kilometer extra distance to reach other side of the Chowk. The barricades have restricted frequent movement of vehicles in the town, which has badly affected our business” alleged the protesters.
“We demand that keeping in view the sentiments of shopkeepers, the administration should remove barricades from Main Chowk in Samba”, they said.
Later, Additional Commissioner Revenue Wasim Raja, Additional Superintendent of Police, Raja Adil Hamid reached the spot and pacified the protesters. They assured that necessary action would be taken into the matter following which the protesters dispersed.
There was a huge traffic jam on the Highway and vehicles were stranded upto a long distance with the result the commuters were put to lot of trouble.
