KATHUA, Feb 9: Concerned over the negligent attitude of State Government towards their grievances, the members of Border Welfare Committee which is spearheading the present agitation sat on hunger strike for the next two days.
The border residents are protesting at SDM Office Hiranagar for last two days demanding that they be given the same benefits given to people on LoC.
The ten members who sat on hunger strike in the premises of SDM Office, Hiranagar included the Bharat Bhushan, vice president of the Committee, Balwinder Singh, Ramesh Singh, Tirth Singh, Om Prakash, Sunit Singh, Ved Prakash, Mohan Lal, Chatar Singh and Chaman Lal.
The residents of 32 villages of Hiranagar Border area in large number including the women also sat on dharna at SDM Office Hiranagar to support the hunger strike and their demands on third consecutive day. The border residents under the banner of Border Welfare Committee, Hiranagar led by its president Nanak Chand continued the protest dharna at SDM Office Hiranagar and raised slogans in favour of their demands.

While, addressing vice President of the Union Bharat Bhushan condemned the fake promises of politicians and Government made with them in past. He demanded the RBA status to residents of International Border on the pattern of LoC as they are also facing the same firing problem and forced to migrate to safer place as the residents of LoC are facing . They also demanded the five marlas plot for border resident during the firing time to shift their family members and compensation of crops and land lying pending for disbursement in the account of civil administration in crores and farmers are facing problem for want of compensation.
He said border firing and continuously migration disturb the education of border youth .They can not continue their study and Government should arrange special recruitment drive in security forces and general department .
He warned that if Government fails to fulfill their demands, the border residents will take next step to sit on fast unto death from coming Monday at SDM office Hiranagar. He has also criticized the all political parties those were in power to deceive them on the name of vote bank and did not fulfill their demands since last two decades.
They also submitted a memorandum of demands to SDM Hiranagar Suresh Kumar addressed to Chief Minister to take their demands seriously and solve them earlier.
