NEW DELHI, Feb 10: The Defence Ministry has approved Rs 1,487.26 crore to the Army establishment for covering multiple military and air bases in Jammu and Kashmir, North East and Western front to block their security gaps, sources in the defence establishment said.
The aim for plugging the security gaps is to protect the key bases from possible terror attacks.
“Rs 1487.26 crore have been sanctioned to the Army for peripheral security. It will cover multiple military and air bases under 6 commands,” the sources said.
After clearance of the project, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has set a deadline to complete the work by December 2018, which will be monitored by the Army headquarters, it added.
The development came amidst reports of heavy infiltration of terror-elements along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and terror attack in an Army camp in Jammu on Saturday. (UNI)
