Passes directions to hold Gram Sabhas to identify houseless populace for PMAY recommendation
JAMMU: Minister for Rural Development Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice, Abdul Haq Khan Sunday said that the government will prepare a fresh list of people who do not own a house so that their case can be recommended to the central government for Prime Minister’s Awas Yojna (PMAY)-Housing for All Scheme.
In this regard, the Minister directed the officers of the department to call Gram Sabhas immediately and prepare a list of genuine and deserving families after consulting the people of the respective Panchayats so that the same can be recommended to the Government of India for grant of funds to them under PMAY for making houses.
The minister said this while laying foundation stone of various houses to be constructed under PMAY in Samba district. During the tour to the district, many people interacted with the minister and informed him about the houseless people drop out from the PMAY list.
The Minister appealed to the people of the state to participate in the Gram Sabhas and help the government in identifying the genuine people who are houseless so that genuine people are benefitted from the scheme. He said the fresh preparation of list will help in including the drop outs in the earlier list and will ensure transparency in the list by getting the list approved in Gram Sabhas.
He said the people of the respective Panchayats know who are houseless in their vicinity and by participating in the Gram Sabhas they will help the government in identifying the genuine persons to be recommended for grant of funds under PMAY.
Abdul Haq directed the officials of Rural Development to finalize the list within 15 days after Gram Sabha and make the list public in the respective Panchayats by pasting the same list at Public places including outside the Offices of BDOs and Panchayat houses so that everybody is aware about the list and discrepancy or complaint, if any, can be communicated to the people.
He also directed the officials to do proper publicity in villages before holding Gram Sabhas so that maximum people participate.
The Minister said the state government will recommend the same list to the Central government for grant of funds under PMAY.
He said the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, ‘Housing for All- by 2022’, was launched by the government in June 2015 with the aim of promoting affordable housing for people from the economically weaker sections.
