JAMMU, Dec 1: With the expectations that Coalition Government  would redress pending demands of the OBCs, All India Backward Classes Union (Social) has resolved to support the NC-Congress coalition candidates in the MLC elections for four seats, out of Panchayat quota.
Addressing a press conference here Abdul Majid Malik, president and Prof Kali Dass general secretary announced the decision of the Union and issued appeal to all the Panchs and Sarpanchs belonging to OBC community, to support the NC and Congress candidates in the elections being held on December 3. They said the community has high hopes from the coalition regarding redressal of pending demands.
The OBC leaders strongly pleaded for providing due share to the OBCs in the Block Development Council elections being held shortly. They said the Government must go for 73rd Amendments in the Constitution, providing powers to the Panchayats. They pointed out that the long pending demand of the State OBCs was to provide  27% reservation as per Mandal Commission recommendations. The respective State Government never implemented the recommendations despite apex court order of 1992. They said the issue be settled once for all.
It was pointed out that only institution for the welfare of the State OBC was the Backward Classes Commission, which was not working in the right direction in the absence of its chairman  and members. The appointments of such people from other castes will not be acceptable to the community, they added.
