Senior Citizens Welfare Society delegation calls on Priya Sethi

JAMMU, Feb 22: A delegation of Senior Citizens and Pensioners Welfare Society led by veteran Trade Union leader, Mir Ghulam Retool Butane called on Minister of State for Education, Culture, Horticulture and Tourism Priya Sethi here, today and discussed the problems of fruit growers especially belonging to Ganderbal district with her.
The delegation stressed on holding of seminars by the Horticulture Department in the area to educate the fruit growers about the latest technology and high yield varieties of fruit.
The delegation also demanded that the deserving farmers be provided the high yield varieties of plants of apple, pears, cherry etc.
The delegation also discussed the issue of Fruit Mandi Zone, Ganderbal and demanded that it be provided all facilities to cater to the needs of growers. The issue of development of various lakes in the area for tourism promotion was also discussed especially the stress was given on Waskura lake.
The delegation turned the attention of the Minister towards the reported move of shifting the Central University Ganderbal from the area to other place which it said has been viewed seriously by the people of the area. Haji Mohammed Sultana and Pervez Ahmed were the other members of the delegation.
The Minister informed the delegation the various steps taken by the Government about the promotion of horticulture in the State and said that the other demands will also be looked into.
