Authorities foil Hurriyat (G) meeting

SRINAGAR, Feb 24: Authorities disallowed the Executive Council meeting called by Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani at Hyderpora headquarters here today.
A spokesman of the conglomerate in a statement said that police during their raids arrested several leaders including spokesman Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Bilal Sidiqee and detained several leaders.
“A posse of police personnel were posted outside Geelani’s residence at Hyderpora where the resistance leaders from various constituent parties were to hold a meeting and did not allow anybody to enter the residence,” the spokesman said.
He said the meeting was convened by the Syed Ali Geelani to discuss several important issues. But authorities disallowed the meeting.
Terming the curbs as “unjustified and unconstitutional”, he said, “the anti-Kashmiri state resorted to its usual tactic of curbing the leadership and gagging voices, once again showing that Kashmir is ruled by the forces’ might.
