JAMMU, Feb 24: The family members and relatives of an accident victim, who expired today here at Government Medical College and Hospital staged a protest and blocked the road in front of police station Bagh-e-Bahu, alleging that the man has been murdered.
According to police sources, a man identified as Mohan Lal (35) son of Om Parkash, resident of Kalka Colony (Bagh-e Bahu), who used to run a rehri of juice at Kalka Colony, had received serious injuries on February 18, when a speeding bike bearing Punjab registration number hit him at Kalka Colony.
They said that the seriously injured Mohan Lal was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries this morning. However, as soon as the police handed over the body to family members, they along with their relatives and neighbours staged a protest in front of police Station Bagh-e-Bahu, with the dead body keeping on the road.
They blocked the busy road and disrupted vehicular traffic movement for about 2 hours, alleging man has been murdered by his rival, who has old enmity with him. They demanded compensation for the family, job for the next of kin of the deceased and a fair probe in the case. Former Minister, Raman Bhalla, also visited the spot and joined the protestors. He also demanded a transparent probe into the matter.
The police tried to pacify the protestors but all in vain. Later, on the assurances of the senior police officers including SDPO East, Arun Jamwal, that the case will be probed in a fair manner and their other demands will be taken up with the concerned authorities, the protestors lifted the body from the road and dispersed.
